2013 Golden Globes! Metallics seemed to be on the wane, with many starlets opting for brightly-colored gowns (red was a favorite, as usual) or prints — Lucy Liu made the biggest statement in her romantic floral Carolina Herrera ball gown, although Halle Berry's Versace was attention-getting as well.
Strapless is another red carpet standard, but there were plenty of actresses who went with a strong shoulder for a dramatic, grown-up look, including Julianne Moore and Kate Hudson. (And "Downton Abbey's Michelle Dockery, but it's best not to call attention to that unfortunate gown.) Bold statement earrings replaced necklaces as the go-to accessory, and lace, cut-outs and sheer gowns (hello, Jennifer Lopez!) were also big.
