Lady Gaga is joining forces with Versace.The Italian fashion company named the "Applause" singer the face of their Spring/Summer 2014 campaign."#Versace proudly confirms @LadyGaga as the face of SS14 campaign shot by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott #VersaceLovesGaga" the Versace brand tweeted on Saturday, Nov. 23.
Versace also shared the first photograph of the ARTPOP artist in her new role, who we can't help but think is channeling Donatella Versace. Gaga is donning a revealing lilac dress and long blond locks, while reclining in a lounge chair. She completes the stunning look with a purple statement ring, stacked rings and pale peach lips.
The Grammy winner took to Twitter to express her excitement, writing "I'm so happy to be working w/ @Versace for the new Campaign! What do you wanna wear this Spring?#Donatella #famiglia."
As fantastic as Lady Gaga looks with her minimal makeup and long, long blonde hair, these ads don’t particularly make us want to buy Versace. If those Versace Medusa heads look big, flashy, and over-the-top on Lady Gaga, who once wore a dress that flew her across a stage, the rest of us have no chance of pulling them off.
But they do make us want to talk about just how much Lady Gaga looks like a young Donatella Versace. The resemblance is uncanny, and we fully support Lady Gaga wearing this toned-down makeup look as often as she wants to. She has such striking and beautiful features, it’s always a pleasant surprise to see them, when normally we’re distracted by the feathers, seashells, or flying monkeys she’s wearing.
